The LAPD has performed a number of tests regarding a buried knife found several years ago at the estate of O.J. Simpson, and TMZ reported Tuesday (Mar. 15) that there was no DNA on the knife that was believed to be connected to the 1994 murders of O.J.’s ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.
“…microbes in the soil degraded any DNA to the point it was impossible to get a meaningful result,” wrote the site. TMZ also states that there was no other evidence of a lead in the case on the knife, such as a strand of hair.
The knife was found by a construction worker who had turned it in to a retired LAPD police officer, George Maycott. Maycott kept it in a toolbox for more than a decade after the police department showed no interest in it when he turned it in years ago. The man’s attorney said that “He thought it had no evidentiary value.”
The Washington Post also reported that there was doubt that the knife had anything to do with the case because it was smaller than the knife believed to have been used to kill Brown and Goldman, and the knife found at the scene is commonly used by gardeners.
